Generally, your water tank should give you many years of trouble free and maintenance free service. Tankworks tanks are designed to last for many years as they are made from strong steel with an internal polymer coating and are not affected by UV radiation.

There are some simple things that should be done on a regular basis to ensure that your rainwater tank functions effectively for as long as possible.

• Keep the tank inlet screen clean and free of leaves and debris
• Clean your gutters regularly, and make sure water does not pool in the gutters as this will cause algae blooms
• Clean your first flush water diverter regularly
• Inspect your tank regularly and make sure that mosquito screens and light guards are installed and working effectively

If you follow these precautions, there is very little else that will be required. Tankworks recommend that you flush all of the water out of your water tank every 3-5 years.

If you have algae, or smelly water in your tank, you may be able to treat it with Davey Acquasafe solution.  In extreme cases, you may need to flush the tank or have a professional tank cleaner perform a service on your tank.
